Heritage

Kroy Railway Group’s mission of improving railway safety began in August of 2019. York Community High School Students, Barry Carta, Connor Polomsky, and Chris Markuson, were tasked with identifying marketable real-world problems in need of solutions for a school project. Being located in Elmhurst Illinois, a community intersected by multiple rail lines in a state with over 9,900 miles of railroad tracks, railroad commuter issues were constantly a problem with no practical solution. This school project is where our mission began…

Inspirations

…after months of exploring the issues created by these rail lines, our team decided that this was an issue that needed an actual solution, and it needed one as quickly as possible. In addition to the thousands of injuries and deaths each year from suicide by train, collisions with cars and pedestrians, and accidental trespassing deaths, there was an entire other category of train related safety issues that no one was actively addressing. The extreme response times to life threatening emergencies created by train traffic interruptions and by extreme traffic backups at blocked grade crossings. On July 29th, 2020 our team succeeded in filing as “Kroy Railway Group, LLC” in the state of Illinois and our railway safety company was officially the first devoted advocate for this sector of rail safety solutions.

Challenges

Developing technology that can be relied upon when it matters most is no easy task. Kroy is constantly innovating to keep up with challenges posed to detecting hazards and trains. Storms, natural moving obstructions, and multiple train/object monitoring are all major considerations during the development of these technologies. Innovations in our software as well as the ability to custom print parts/covers via our own 3-D printers are some of the ways we tackle these problems as an organization, ensuring that first responders and commuters are always informed.

Kroy Railway Group has made tremendous progress since first undertaking this project in 2019. Numerous and strong connections throughout the industry and country have helped to propel our project forwards, allowing us to develop these novel technologies used in our sensors at record pace. We are currently testing our solutions as well as providing these technologies to towns throughout our network.
